Tennessee Speaker of the House

Beth Harwell

The Tennessee House of Representatives is the lower house of the state legislature of Tennessee. The official title in our state is the "General Assembly of the State of Tennessee," but may also be properly referred to as the Legislature. 99 members make up the lower chamber of the Tennessee General Assembly and meet at the State Capitol in Nashville. Representatives have two-year terms and all 99 are up for election in the same 2-year cycle. Each member represents approximately 57,468 residents.  There are no term limits and it is a part-time legislature,  limited to ninety "legislative days" per two-year term, plus up to fifteen days for organizational purposes at the start of each term.
