  The Illinois Senate is the upper chamber of the Illinois General Assembly, the state legislature in Illinois. The Illinois Senate convenes at the State Capitol in Springfield.  Senators and Representatives are elected without term limits. After every census (decade) Senate legislative districts are divided equally into three groups: Senators from one group are elected for terms of four years, then four years and then two years; Senators from the second group, for terms of four years, two years and four years; and Senators from the third group, for terms of two years, four years and four years.
